Wandy's trade value takes another hit in Astros' loss to Padres
In a 34-58 season, one loss can just blend into the previous loss and become indistinguishable from the next loszzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

But wake up. This one was bad. The much more concerning thing than just an 8-4 loss to the San Diego Padres on Wednesday is what has become of the Wandy Rodriguez, who was looking like a top-shelf item for buyers at the trade deadline just two months ago.

Rodriguez had his shortest outing of the season and, strange as it was for a guy who was perfect through three innings, arguably his worst. He went from on a roll to on the pine in the span of one inning, giving up five runs over 38 pitches in the fourth before being yanked in favor of a pinch hitter.

It broke his streak of 48 starts of five or more innings pitched, which had been the longest streak in the National League.

But this was hardly an out-of-nowhere development or a road bump. You could see this coming with Rodriguez, whose season has been in decline since the end of May.

After compiling a 2.14 ERA in his first 10 starts, he has a 5.65 ERA in his last 10, and there are few answers in the stuff and no injury to speak of.

"Everything is the same," Rodriguez said. "That's the way it happens sometimes."

Manager Brad Mills was particularly displeased by the two walks in San Diego's five-run fourth.

After a single from Alexi Amarista snuck through the infield to end the perfection, Rodriguez walked Logan Forsythe and Carlos Quentin in a three-batter span as the Padres put the first six men on.

A wild pitch and a throwing error by J.D. Martinez moved runners along, but in the end, all five runs were earned, pushing Rodriguez's ERA up to 3.75.

"It's tough to put your full finger on it and see what's going on," Mills said. "But the thing we've talked about before is being able to stop those innings, and that has been his Achilles' heel a little bit.

Mike Leake, at least nominally, is the Reds' fifth starter. When your fifth starter is rolling, it's a good sign for the club overall. And Leake is rolling. Leake went seven shutout innings to push his scoreless streak to 13 2/3 innings as the Reds beat the New York Mets, 4-0, before a crowd o

With all Fernando Rodney did Tuesday, he figured he might as well aim high. So after getting the final five outs in another tougher-than-it-needed-to-be 4-3 win over the Blue Jays, he took full aim at the top of the Rogers Centre with his imaginary celebratory arrow. "Right through the roof,"
