With Bynum, youthful Sixers are even younger
Newcomer Jason Richardson is the elder statesman on the transformed Sixers' club. With 11 years in the NBA, Richardson won't be 32-years-old until next January.

Richardson will be the oldest player on the roster.

Jrue Holiday turned 22 this summer. Evan Turner, poised for his breakout season, turns 24 just before the season opener. Veteran Thad Young, already with five years of NBA experience, just turned 24 and new frontcourt mate, Andrew Bynum, turns 25 the same day that Turner turns 24.

Additionally, Spencer Hawes is 24, Dorell Wright will be 26 on opening night and Nick Young will be 27. With Lavoy Allen, 23, and Arnet Moultrie, just 21, the Sixers just went from the youngest team in last season's NBA playoffs to downright youthful. With Richardson, the "old" guys on the team are a pair of 30-year olds in Kwame Brown and Royal Ivey.

Last year the average age in the NBA was 26.7 and the Sixers were 24.9 even with 36-year old Tony Battie and 33-year old Elton Brand. But the upcoming version of the Sixers is younger and more experienced. It's an amazing combination and almost unfathomable that at age 25, a player like Bynum can be going into his eighth NBA season.

Of course with youth there often is the issue of maturity, or, maybe, a lack thereof. Coach Doug Collins had the great fortune of having Brand and Battie on the roster and the pair of veterans helped police the locker room. As a result, Collins often allowed the players to work out whatever issues were brewing inside the locker room and for the past two seasons, the Sixers had very few problems -- if any.
