As fast as you can say four-team trade, Andre Iguodala went from living the Olympic dream to being a pawn in the NBA game of big egos and super teams.
What's the best Iguodala could say about Denver, after a blockbuster trade completed Friday landed him Denver?
It's no worse than being traded to Alaska.
"I'm happy to be in the NBA. Happy to still have a job," Iguodala said, when I asked him to measure his enthusiasm about leaving Philadelphia for the Nuggets. "It's just a blessing, because only 400 guys get to play in the NBA. And I'm happy to be a player wanted by so many teams."
But is he happy to be in Denver?
"I'm happy to play basketball," Iguodala said. "I don't care if I was playing in Alaska."
It's fair to say Iguodala's response to the trade was highly professional. But if he's excited about the opportunity in Denver, the 6-foot-6 forward did a very good job of hiding it.
Every minute of his eight-year pro career had been played with Philadelphia, where Iguodala averaged 15.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.9 assists. He's considered a valuable member of the U.S. Olympic team for his versatility and willingness to play a secondary role on a star-studded roster dominated by LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant.
