Kobe Bryant Player Profile

Kobe Bryant was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but lived in Italy as a child when his father, Joe Bryant, played professional basketball in the country. He moved back to Philadelphia for high school and was drafted out of high school by the Charlotte Hornets with the 13th overall pick in the 1996 NBA draft. He was then traded to the Los Angeles Lakers for Vlade Divac. He is currently a star shooting guard for the Lakers.

Kobe Bryant Awards

Kobe Bryant won three NBA Championships with the Lakers from 2000-2002, as well as a Most Valuable Player Award in 2008. He has also been on numerous NBA All-Star teams and won gold as a member of the USA Olympic men’s basketball team in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Phil Jackson has officially signed a contract to coach the Lakers this season, according to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN Los Angeles.

RotoTimes.com: He announced his intent to return back on July 1, but this makes it official. Not that he's hurting for it, but the financial terms of his contract were not announced.

According to the Los Angeles Times' Mike Bresnahan, Kobe Bryant has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his "bothersome" right knee. He is expected to be ready for training camp.

The NBA has announced that the salary cap for the 2010-11 season will be set at $58.044 million, according to Alan Hahn of New York Newsday.
