Chad Pennington is not in contention to be the Dolphins backup quarterback, according to Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

RotoTimes.com: The Dolphins are obviously going with Chad Henne under center this season, but it looks like shoulder issues have forced Pennington into nothing more than a veteran mentor role. Tyler Thigpen is the early favorite to win the backup job considering Pat White's development is still moving slowly.

Chad Pennington (shoulder) has started throwing at the Dolphins' OTAs, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Omar Kelly.

RotoTimes.com: Pennington has looked fine in short routes of up to 15 yards but still has more arm strength to build up following shoulder surgery. He should be ready to back up Chad Henne by the time the season commences.

The Associated Press reports that Dolphins third-string quarterback Chad Pennington has mostly been playing a mentor role in offseason workouts. He has not done much throwing as the team wants to play it safe with his surgically repaired shoulder.

RotoTimes.com: Pennington was sound fantasy quarterback two seasons ago, but he's not worth consideration this year. Chad Henne has the starting job, and his two backups, Pat White and Tyler Thigpen, both figure to have more to offer. We wouldn't be surprised if Pennington stuck around to work with these players all year, but he won't see much, if any, game action.

Chad Pennington (shoulder) will enter Miami's training camp as the team's third-string quarterback, according to the Miami Herald.

RotoTimes.com: This means that Chad Henne will be the clear-cut starter, while Tyler Thigpen will have a chance to develop with more repetitions as the No. 2, and gives Pennington more time to heal from shoulder surgery. Still, with all that said, if the Dolphins are competitive next year and Henne struggles or gets hurt, we wouldn't be at all surprised if Pennington got the call over Thigpen.

Chad Pennington has signed a one-year deal worth $2.5MM to remain with the Dolphins, according to ESPN. The contract includes a trade bonus of $1.515MM if he is dealt during the season.

RotoTimes.com: Pennington is coming off another shoulder surgery, and the 34-year-old vet is likely to serve as a mentor to young hurler Chad Henne, rather than regain his starting gig.

The Dolphins are expected to re-sign Chad Pennington, according to the Palm Beach Post.

RotoTimes.com: This is good news for Pennington, who is 34 and coming off a season-ending right shoulder injury. He could regain the starting gig at quarterback as well.

According to Mike Berardino on Twitter, the Cardinals are looking at Chad Pennington as a fallback plan for starting quarterback Matt Leinart.

RotoTimes.com: Pennington would fit in nicely in Arizona, and if he proves that he is healthy and back to his 2008 form, he would be a solid option behind Leinart. There's also a good possibility that if Leinart flops, gets injured or is just flat out outplayed by Pennington that the former Dolphin could become the starter.

Updating an earlier report, Chad Pennington is open to all offers if the Dolphins decide not to bring him back for the 2010 season, according to the Palm Beach Post.

RotoTimes.com: The veteran quarterback, who has been recovering from shoulder surgery, will visit Dr. James Andrews on February 15 to get the green light to throw. Even if he proves to be healthy, Pennington looks to be merely backup material at this point of his career.

Chad Pennington (shoulder) has decided to make it his priority to stay with Miami next season, according to the Miami Herald.

RotoTimes.com: Should Pennington return, it'd be as a backup to Chad Henne. With both Pat White and Tyler Thigpen on Miami's roster, Pennington will have to prove he's recovered from shoulder surgery and able to still make some of the tougher throws.
